About Chiropractic
The aim of chiropractic is to restore balance to the whole skeleton and thereby ensure that the nervous system is working efficiently and that the body can return to its normal state which should be pain free, comfortable and mobile.
The spine is made up of 24 vertebrae which protect the spinal cord. Where one vertebrae joins another there is a gap for the spinal nerve to exit from the spinal cord. The spinal nerves are responsible for carrying the pain/discomfort messages back to the brain as well as information about any misalignment that may be causing that pain/discomfort. So if the spine is adjusted back to its normal position the body should be pain free.
Misalignments to joints can occur instantaneously from a sudden injury such as a car accident or a slip on the ice. They can also occur from continued poor posture, repetitive unbalanced movement and even stress both emotional and physical.
Symptoms of the misalignments may be feelings you have been ignoring up to now… dull ache, muscle soreness, pain, tingling, pins and needles and even numbness.
Adjustments are quick, dextrous and accurate which has the added benefit of being generally comfortable to receive.
Chiropractors are highly trained and must be members of the General Chiropractic Council which sets and monitors performance standards and the ethics of the profession for the benefit of patients. The GCC supervises the annual requirement of all chiropractors to undertake annual professional development to update both knowledge and skills.
